Konjuh: I’m growing with each match
Croatian tennis player Ana Konjuh secured her place in the next round of Serbia Ladies Open, having defeated Alison Van Uytvanck from Belgium with 2-1, with 6:2, 1:6, 7:5 sets.
“Today I needed to win in two sets, but I also need to continue learning and growing with each match. I started well, but she also made mistakes and that helped me. When you start making mistakes, you start doubting yourself. In the third set she had a 0:2 lead, but as soon as I stopped making mistakes and saved my service, I knew I was close to victory. I hope that I did good,” said the 23-year old Croatian.
Konjuh commented the previous part of the season as well.
“I played great at the tournament in Miami, and as for Madrid, I did not have enough time to prepare. I am happy that I even got to play there, it was good to get experience on clay,” she said.
In regard to Belgrade, she stated:
“Due to COVID, only my team is with me, I came without my family. Tournaments played in the region mean a lot to us, but it’s unusual that I don’t have to speak in English. I’m grateful for the opportunity to speak in my mother tongue.”
In the eight final, Yulia Putintseva from Kazakhstan awaits her.
“I expect an interesting match. I know her play style is defensive, which means I will need to be careful. Today’s victory means a lot for my self-confidence. I hope I will serve well, we’ll see what will happen,” concluded Konjuh.
