Tomova: I feel at home in Belgrade

Tomova: I feel at home in Belgrade

Bulgaria’s Viktoriya Tomova secured a semi-final berth at Serbia Ladies Open after beating Hungary’s Reka-Luca Jani in three sets 6:1, 2:6, 7:5.

“I am proud to have fought to the very end, I did not give up. I was tired, I didn’t know what I was doing at one point. The balls bounced high and it was hard for me. I told myself I would fight and I succeeded. In the second set I was tired and I was just trying to do my best. I’m happy because of that,” said Tomova.

We had rain in Belgrade over the past two days, which is why numerous matches have been postponed.

“It was hard for everyone because we had to wait for the rain to stop. I learned to be patient. You just have to keep going and be positive because at one point you think everything is against you”

Tomova is currently ranked no. 125 in the world, and she was asked if she is thinking about the rankings much.

“I try not to think too much about it, but it is important. I have been in the top 200 for a long time. I want to enter the Top 100 because of the Grand Slams, it is difficult to play the qualifying tournament every week. I try to think about the improvements in my game, that’s the most important thing,” said the Bulgrian.

And finally, she praised the tournament.

“I think this is the best WTA 250 tournament I have ever played. People are really amazing, the organization is phenomenal, and the food made me feel at home”.

Tomova will play Spain’s Paula Badosa for a place in the final.
